Autumn-workshop

Internship with 12 to 14-year-old students within the OKAN-school Panorama

During our Creative Arts class, taught by Ilse Van Den Bogaert, we began preparing for our very first workshop, which we delivered in December 2023 at Panorama High School—barely three months after our degree had started. We conducted an arts-based workshop for OKAN students, learners with a migration background receiving extra Dutch lessons to integrate as quickly as possible into our regular education-system.

We started with a moodboard, based on the D’Arts model—a guide we use regularly when designing a new lesson. Next, I developed a full lesson overview including a warm-up, creative phase, finishing phase, and of course a nice closing activity. This required a lot of time and thoughtful preparation. Preparing for the “real thing” wasn’t easy; it couldn’t just be done by filling out documents! Many factors had to be considered.

In the end, it came together beautifully—the lesson flow, timeline, and handouts can all be found by clicking each word. You can use these as an inspiration for your own class, or just check them out of curiosity.

The workshop went very well! I felt confident while guiding the students and am proud of how the assignment turned out. Not every student was as enthusiastic about an arts lesson, but in the end, everyone created a nice final result! Don’t hesitate to check out the PDF and PowerPoint reflecting on the Panorama workshop.
