Internship with 13-year-old students at Gemeentelijk Institute Brasschaat High School
During the first internship period of my second year in the PO teaching program, I had the opportunity to teach at my former high school! The groups of students I was assigned were more diverse than expected, and the time-periods I had to give class—Monday mornings and Friday afternoons—posed a challenge. However, this only strengthened my classroom management skills. You can see a brief description of the lesson assignment underneath this description.
The group of students I worked with needed a little extra motivation to make their sketches, but they were very enthusiastic about drawing on the cafeteria windows! You can find the results and lesson documents below.
A few examples of the sketches the students made as preparation for the window-drawings.
“Nele is an enthusiastic future Art teacher. She knows how to engage students, address them appropriately, intervene when needed, and guide them during her internship. Her variety of teaching methods is excellent. She created an attractive PowerPoint and is able to build up her demonstrations step by step. She seems to notice everything, motivates students well, and takes plenty of time for individual guidance.”
