Learning-aid ‘See More’, ‘Who is Who‘ & a viewing guide

Assignment Art-Initiation, evaluated by Ilse Van den Bogaert

During our Art Initiation class, we were asked to create a task for an imaginary classroom. We selected an artwork that appealed to us and contained enough diverse elements. On this basis, we applied two learning tools of our choice and combined them into a complete assignment.

I chose the learning tools Meer Zien (See More) and Wie is Wie (Who is Who), and the artwork Landscape with Girl Skipping Rope, created by Salvador Dali in 1936. This approach encourages children to observe the artwork more attentively to identify specific elements and to reflect on the artist behind the work.

You can find the full assignment here!

In the next Art Initiation class, we were asked to create a viewing guide that helps students observe and understand an artwork. I once again used the same artwork as before: Landscape with Girl Skipping Rope by Salvador Dali.

We worked with the five stages/lenses of Parsons, which guide you in creating a simple viewing guide. We first explored some of the advantages of this method and then quickly got to work ourselves.

Here you can see my final result. I adapted the five stages to correspond with the five senses, and I also added playful drawings and appropriate colors to make it engaging and appealing to students!
